The Spiral Path

What does it represent?

The spiral represents the path of life. Starting
from the center and spiraling outwards is said to
represent growth and expansion. Starting from the
outside and spiraling inwards is said to represent
introspection and self-exploration.

It is like a path around a mountain. It circles
the mountain so it may seem like we're 'going in
circles', yet each time we come around, we have
gained altitude, and so can see things from a
different perspective. We are not in the same
place even when we are on the same side of the
mountain.

"When your life is a spiral path, you encounter
the same challenges and issues repeatedly but
your experience and wisdom allows you to see
them at a higher attitude. Our ascension reveals
newer (or fewer) details each time."

"The spiral is an ancient symbol that offers
us many meanings and teachings. The universal
pattern of order in the natural world and of
all time can be symbolized by the spiral.
Consider the Earth's turning in the solar
system and across the cosmos--a spiral.
Consider the unfolding pattern of petals in
a flower, a snail shell, the circling of the
eagle above--the spiral again. It seems this
trajectory is the natural order of growth and
evolution. The living spiral does not begin or
end, it is an ongoing process of innocence,
discovery, community, and the essence that
connects all things."

Eric A. Smith

"
The spiral is the most widespread shape in nature. When left alone, energy tends to move, grow and balance as spirals. From seashells and whirlpools to atoms, embryos and galaxies, the spiral is a timeless glyph of nature's design alphabet. ...The spiral is also a worldwide symbol of self-transformation appearing as Biblical whirlwinds, Native migrations and the Yellowbrick Road to Oz."

Michael S. Schneider, M. Ed.
